We use this Bee-Friendly symbol to represent our commitment to sourcing wax from ethical beekeepers. We support beekeepers, who love their bees and want to preserve them. In addition, Honey Candles donates financially to honey bee research. By supporting beekeeping, we draw awareness to the plight of all pollinator species. Collecting beeswax is part of honey harvest and a natural by-product of pollination.
Why are Honey Bees Important?
A single honey bee will typically visit around 7000 flowers a day, and it takes four million flower visits to produce a kilogram of honey.
According to the United Nations, honey bees and other pollinators play an important role in:
- Food security and production
- Healthy agricultural ecosystems
- Nutritional food options
Little Actions with Bee Friendly Impact
Pollinator populations face various threats including a lack of appropriate habitat for healthy foraging. Here are four simple ways you can help:
- Plant bee friendly flowers in your garden or other outdoor spaces
- Support apiaries and beekeepers by purchasing bee related products
- Consider pollinators if purchasing pest control products
- Engage with projects that encourage pollinators in urban centres
It’s about more than just the bees
As a brand Honey Candles is committed to making choices that are better for the environment. Our manufacturing process produces very little waste and requires no chemical processing. Most of our packaging is made locally from recycled cardboard and we are in the process of eliminating all plastic from our packaging, we started with our birthday candles in early 2018.
The Peek-a-Bee Program
