Best Beeswax Candles

Do you love beeswax’s rich heritage, beautiful smell, and all natural, iconic look and feel. You know you want beeswax on your table.  Now how do you choose which one?

The Wax – At Honey Candles we only collect the best, cleanest cappings wax from beekeepers in western Canada - and then we clean it some more.  Impurities in your wax might affect the look on the surface, but more importantly it affects the way the candle burns.  It can clog the wick starving the flame of wax; it can also make the flame spit and sputter; and it can lead to unsightly wax pools. Take a close look at the wax when you are buying beeswax candles.  Colour can vary, but it should be free of debris, and often that means an extra filtration step.

The Wick – At the core, candlemaking comes down to the wick.  There are many varieties of wick type, but Honey Candles we opt for all-natural fibre wicks made primarily of cotton that are free from lead or zinc cores.  Sometimes the way the wick burns the candle is very predictable, sometimes it isn’t. This is why we continuously test the way each one of our candles burns to ensure we achieve the optimal balance between wax consumption and burn time.  It’s hard to judge a wick by its appearance so you should choose a candle from a company that is committed to natural fibre wicks and the process of testing a variety of wick sizes and braid types.

The Shape – The best shape of candle depends on you!  Each style of candle has unique needs and it is important to find the candle that suits your burning style. For example, if you love burning beeswax candles for hours are a time, Pillars and Tealights may be your perfect match! If you tend to burn for shorter periods, Candlesticks may be a better match for you. If you feel like you land somewhere in the middle Votives are great for burning at various lengths of time.
