History of Honey Candles

History of Honey Candles

For 25 years Honey Candles has been crafting pure beeswax candles. With many years in business come many changes along the way, but we have always stayed true to our commitment to creating quality, natural candles that look beautiful and burn clean. As we look forward and wonder what the future has in store, we reminisce about the past and remind ourselves how far we’ve come.

In 2000 our previous owners, Leah and Roy, joined the company and started building a vision of how Honey Candles could fit into the marketplace, eventually they became the sole owners. This hardworking pair believed that one shouldn’t need to sacrifice quality to create pure and natural products and that natural products could be made and sold with excellent value-added customer service too! Their passion and hard work grew Honey Candles into the company we all know and love today. When the time came for their retirement, Leah and Roy knew that they wanted to leave the company they loved in the right hands.

Luckily around the same time Leah and Roy’s daughter, Alecia, and her husband Stephen decided they were ready to make a lifestyle change. They had spent over a decade living and working in Northern British Columbia, but with two young daughters they sought the slower pace and family connections of the Kootenay lifestyle and decided to purchase Honey Candles.  Alecia had worked in the business previously and after many years in management, was eager to own and run the family business. The pair brought fresh energy and new perspectives to the business but they also share their predecessors’ belief in hard work, quality products and a commitment to only clean and natural ingredients.

Honey Candles products continue to be handcrafted with the same dedication. We continue to only use pure Canadian beeswax from beekeepers we trust and we buy the best performing lead- and zinc-free, cotton wicks. Most of our labels and packaging are designed and made locally because we want the sale of our products to bring even more value to our local economy.  Our coloured beeswax candles use minute amounts of environmentally friendly non-toxic dyes and our scented candles use only pure essential oils. Our commitment to natural, eco-friendly products for your home has never wavered and we continually look for innovative ways to reduce our waste and support healthy bee populations.
